The ATP Business Education Programme has its second wave of graduates after the 2024 edition of the special educational initiative came to a close in Madrid.

After a host of ATP Tour stars took part in the first two phases of the programme, held in March in Miami and online, the participants gathered ahead of the Mutua Madrid Open for a range of workshops designed to help them learn more about the business side of sport.

Started in 2023, the Business Education Programme is run in partnership with La Liga, the top tier of Spanish professional football. The four speakers who presented to participating players across two days in the Spanish capital included La Liga CEO Jorge de la Vega.

There are three main objectives for the programme: Help the athletes better understand the sports industry, identify and connect with management disciplines and inspire professional development.

ATP Chairman Andrea Gaudenzi said: “Education is an important pillar for the ATP and that's why, in addition to investing in it, we’re working to develop more educational projects in the future alongside La Liga, a sports property that is growing and innovating enormously in the field of education.”

Players that participated in the programme this year were: Marcelo Arevalo, Camilo Ugo Carabelli, Taro Daniel, Sadio Doumbia, Marton Fucsovics, Yannick Hanfmann, Austin Krajicek, Patrick Kypson, Dusan Lajovic, Nathaniel Lammons, Fabrice Martin, Pedro Martinez, Andres Molteni, Nicolas Moreno De Alboran, Miguel Angel Reyes-Varela Martinez, Aldin Setkic, Franko Skugor, Andrea Vavassori and Jan Zielinski.

Vavassori said: “I really enjoyed the business programme. I have to say thanks to the ATP and La Liga for organising it. It was really nice. I think it was a great group of guys.

“I had the opportunity to do both live sessions [in Miami and Madrid], it was a really nice programme. I think a few classes were very interesting for me. The financial one with Goldman Sachs was a really good one. Also the one in Madrid about marketing, social media, two or three sessions were really great. I learned a lot of things that will be helpful for me in the future. So I think it's a great opportunity and the guys that want to do it in the future, I think next year will be another great opportunity because the programme is developing and so I think it will be even better in the future.”
