Much-loved ATP and WTA physiotherapist Alessio Ceccarelli has passed away after a short illness in his hometown of Pisa.

The Italian was a long-time physio for recently retired Ukrainian former World No. 13 Alexandr Dolgopolov. He had most recently worked with WTA players Laura Siegemund and Andrea Petkovic, and had worked with the likes of Hyeon Chung, Flavia Pennetta, Francesca Schiavone and Elina Svitolina in the past.

“I cannot believe this news. I am so sad to hear this,” Dolgopolov said. “He was my friend and he looked after me for many years. Alessio had such a positive attitude, and this is hard to believe.”
