ATP ACES For Charity: Tokyo

The Rakuten Japan Open Tennis Championships aims to introduce children to wheelchair tennis

Charities and Causes
Through the Japan Wheelchair Tennis Association and Shingo Kunieda, the World No. 1 wheelchair player, the Rakuten Japan Open Tennis Championships aims to introduce children to wheelchair tennis and start a junior tournament. The ATP ACES For Charity grant will be used for the cost of courts and balls, as well as to buy and repair wheelchairs for tennis.

In 2011, the Japan Tennis Association assisted individuals affected by the devastating earthquake and tsunami in Eastern Japan in March. Proceeds from its charity fund went toward the Japan Red Cross and to local youth tennis groups through the Tohoku Tennis Association headquartered in Sendai, the nearest major city to the earthquake epicentre.

Highlights
The Rakuten Japan Open Tennis Championships received a $10,000 ATP ACES For Charity grant in 2011 in support of earthquake relief efforts.
