Over eight days and three rounds, fans cast their votes for their favourite of eight Classic Moments from this ATP World Tour Masters 1000 tournament. '2014: Federer Halts Djokovic' won by overwhelming margins in the final and semi-finals, respectively winning 90 per cent of votes cast against '2015: Tsonga Takes Down Nadal' and 88 per cent against '2011: Ferrer Fights Past Roddick'. In the first round, it received 62 per cent of votes against another Federer classic from 2014, when the Swiss saved five match points to overcome Leonardo Mayer in the second round.

Federer produced arguably his best tennis of the 2014 season to upset Djokovic 6-4, 6-4 in the Golden Moment, snapping the two-time defending champion's 28-match winning streak on Chinese soil. “I think I did not play too bad,” said Djokovic after the match. “It's just that he played everything he wanted to play. He played the perfect match... an amazing match.”

The Tsonga match had narrowly earned its place in the Shanghai Golden Moment final, receiving 51 per cent of the votes against Kei Nishikori's 2011 comeback win - coincidentally against the Frenchman - in the semi-finals. It also faced tough competition in the first round, beating out Djokovic's 2013 thriller against Juan Martin del Potro, 53 per cent to 47 per cent.
