Albot/Lajovic Upset Top Seeds For Istanbul Title
The new pairing upsets three seeded teams en route to the Istanbul crown.
"We paired for the first time and we clicked right away," said Lajovic. "I think we were playing very good from the first match It's a great thing to win my first ATP [World Tour] title in Istanbul. It will always be special for me."
"We're going to try to go to the same tournaments maybe, so we'll see what happens," Albot added on their future together as a team.
The champions beat Turkish tandem Marsel Ilhan and Cem Ilkel in the first round, ousted second seeds Oliver Marach and Philipp Oswald in the quarter-finals, and defeated third seeds Chris Guccione and Andre Sa in the semi-finals en route to the title.
Albot was appearing in his first tour-level final, while Lajovic was in his second tour-level final, having finished as runner-up in Umag last July (w/Skugor).
It was the first tour-level final for Lindstedt/Melzer in their fifth tournament together. They had not dropped a set this week en route to the final. The Swede was looking to win a title for the ninth straight year.
