Medvedev Beats Schwartzman To Reach Queen's Club Semi-finals

Russian to meet Simon on Saturday

Daniil Medvedev became the first Russian since Dmitry Tursunov in 2007 to reach the semi-finals at the Fever-Tree Championships, which was first contested at The Queen’s Club in 1890.

The fourth seed dominated Argentine Diego Schwartzman in a 6-2, 6-2 victory over 77 minutes, breaking serve in the first and fifth games of each set. Medvedev, who saved four break points, struck seven aces and lost the same number of first-service points.

The 23-year-old, who is now 28-12 on the season that includes the Sofia Open title (d. Fucsovics), will next play a Frenchman Gilles Simon.

Simon came through an epic battle on Court 1 against French compatriot Nicolas Mahut, who lost to Andy Roddick in the 2007 final. The 34-year-old Simon, the 2015 semi-finalist (l. to Anderson), dug deep to win 7-6(5), 5-7, 7-6(3) in three hours and 21 minutes. It was Simon’s sixth straight win in their eighth FedEx ATP Head2Head meeting.
