Murray/Skupski Roll In US Open Debut
Murray/Skupski, the 15th seeds, hit 21 winners and committed only nine unforced errors in the first-round win. The two are playing in only their second Grand Slam tournament together after joining forces in June during the grass-court season. Murray/Skupski will face Ricardas Berankis/Juan Ignacio Londero or another American wild card team in Maxime Cressy/Keegan Smith.
Austin Krajicek/Edouard Roger-Vasselin prevailed past Serbians Laslo Djere/Janko Tipsarevic 7-6(3), 5-7, 6-2. The American-Frenchman combination will next play Jack Sock/Jackson Withrow, who defeated 11th seeds Ivan Dodig and Filip Polasek 6-4, 7-6(2).
Meanwhile, on Court 15, Tim Smyczek played the final match of his professional career, bidding farewell alongside countryman Mitchell Krueger. The Americans were defeated by teenagers Toby Alex Kodat and Martin Damm 7-6(6), 7-5. The 31-year-old Smyczek reached a career-high singles ATP Ranking of No. 68 and lifted seven ATP Challenger Tour trophies. His best result in a Grand Slam came at the US Open in 2013, when he reached the third round.
