Murray/Soares To Face Koolhof/Tsitsipas In Miami

Second seeds looking for best Miami showing yet

No. 2 seeds Jamie Murray and Bruno Soares, seeking their second ATP Masters 1000 title (2018 Cincinnati), beat Americans Mackenzie McDonald/Reilly Opelka 7-5, 7-6(1) on Friday to start their Miami Open presented by Itau.

Murray/Soares are coming off a title run at the Arizona Tennis Classic, an ATP Challenger Tour event, in Phoenix. They kicked off their season by winning their 10th ATP Tour doubles title as a team at the Sydney International. Murray/Soares, 2017 Miami quarter-finalists, will next play Wesley Koolhof/Stefanos Tsitsipas, who beat Karen Khachanov/Daniil Medvedev 6-1, 6-4 on Thursday.

Radu Albot/Nikoloz Basilashvili saved all five break points against Ben McLachlan/Neal Skupski and reached the second round 6-2, 6-4 in only 58 minutes. Albot/Basilashvili will meet Jean-Julien Rojer/Horia Tecau or fifth seeds Oliver Marach/Mate Pavic.

Americans John Isner/Sam Querrey also advanced against Marcelo Demoliner/Miomir Kecmanovic 6-3, 6-4 and will meet the winner between Henri Kontinen/John Peers and Rajeev Ram/Joe Salisbury.
