Read & Watch: Rafael Nadal Helps Crying Boy At US Open
What doesn't Rafael Nadal do? He wins Grand Slams. He smashes forehands on the run. He even rescues children.
Earlier Friday, the second-seeded Nadal was signing autographs at the US Open when he noticed a child crying because he was being smushed by eager Rafa fans. Nadal reached into the crowd and lifted the child out of the chaos, then comforted and calmed down the boy before signing his hat.
The Spaniard, a three-time US Open champion, advanced to the third round by walkover (Kokkinakis, right shoulder) on Thursday evening and will next meet 2017 Next Gen ATP Finals champion Hyeon Chung for a place in the Round of 16.
The South Korean qualified, beat American wild card Ernesto Escobedo and upset 32nd seed Fernando Verdasco to make his first third round at a Slam since the 2018 Australian Open (semi-finals, ret. vs. Federer).
