Ram/Salisbury Soar Into Semi-Finals At Wimbledon
Sixth seeds Rajeev Ram and Joe Salisbury continued their Wimbledon run in style as they overcame Colombian pair Juan Sebastian Cabal and Robert Farah 6-3, 6-4, 7-6(2) on Monday to reach their first semi-final at the All England Club as a team.
The American-British tandem, who lifted the Australian Open title last year, won 82 per cent (45/55) of their first-service points and hit 22 winners against the third seeds and defending champions to advance in two hours and 10 minutes. Ram and Salisbury will face top seeds Nikola Mektic and Mate Pavic after the Croatians fought past Lukasz Kubot and Marcelo Melo in five sets on Tuesday.
It is the second time the pair has advanced to the semi-finals at a Grand Slam, having made the final at the 2019 US Open (l. to Cabal/Farah). Granollers and Zeballos won the Mutua Madrid Open (d. Mektic/Pavic) in May and will next play Simone Bolelli and Maximo Gonzalez.
The Italian-Argentine team have enjoyed a strong grass-court season, winning the Mallorca Championships title last month. They moved past 14th seeds Raven Klaasen and Ben McLachlan 7-6(0), 6-4, 6-3 in two hours and 16 minutes.Bolelli and Gonzalez won 9/9 of their first-service points in the third set and hit 14 winners in the match. It is the first time they have reached a semi-final at a Grand Slam as a team.
