Taylor Fritz, Tommy Paul, Brandon Nakashima and Frances Tiafoe have all advanced to the quarter-finals of the Cincinnati Open, combining to emulate some American tennis greats in Cincinnati.
It is the first time since 1995 that four Americans have reached the quarter-finals of the ATP Masters 1000 event in Ohio. That year, Andre Agassi, Michael Chang, Jim Courier and Pete Sampras all reached that stage.
It also marks the first time that at least four Americans have advanced to the last eight at a Masters 1000 event since Indian Wells in 2003, when James Blake, Robby Ginepri, Andy Roddick, Vincent Spadea and Brian Vahaly were among the eight quarter-finalists.
World No. 9 Fritz is bidding to win his first Masters 1000 crown since Indian Wells in 2022. Fritz will face Nakashima in the quarter-finals, with the former leading 4-1 in the pair's Lexus ATP Head2Head series after winning their two previous meetings in Dallas and Washington this year. World No. 22 Nakashima is enjoying a breakthrough season, having reached his first Masters 1000 final last week in Montreal and now his first Cincinnati quarter-final.
Paul is also into the last eight in Cincinnati for the first time. The American saved one match point to shock top seed Alexander Zverev in the fourth round and is bidding to win his first Masters 1000 crown. The 29-year-old will face Flavio Cobolli for a place in the last four.
Tiafoe is back in the last eight in Cincinnati for the first time since 2024, when he reached the final before falling to Jannik Sinner. The 17th seed, who upset World No. 4 Felix Auger-Aliassime in the fourth round, faces Lorenzo Musetti in the quarter-finals.
Quarter-final action in Cincinnati takes place Thursday, 20 August and Friday, 21 August. Paul plays seventh seed Cobolli on Thursday, while Fritz, Nakashima and Tiafoe will be scheduled to compete Friday.
