Nick Kyrgios enjoyed the most special year of his career in 2022, when he won the Australian Open men’s doubles title with close friend Thanasi Kokkinakis and reached the Wimbledon singles final. It was all documented on Netflix’s Break Point.

“2022 was phenomenal,” Kyrgios said. “To think at the start of that year I was almost contemplating not playing anymore and then had the best year of my career was insane.”

In 2023, break point was against the Australian, who only played one match while struggling with injuries. Even so, Kyrgios participated in the Netflix docuseries for Season 2, contributing as an expert analyst.

ATPTour.com looks at his highlights from the season.

Kyrgios determined to win a singles Slam
In the first episode of the season, Netflix followed Kyrgios as he walked on court to face Novak Djokovic in an exhibition at Melbourne Park. The Australian joked that the pressure was a bit different compared to their walkout for the Wimbledon final.

One thing that is not a joke for Kyrgios is pushing to lift a singles trophy at a major.

“If I do win a Grand Slam, I’ll have more chance to be at peace,” Kyrgios revealed.

Nick honest about injury struggles
After reliving Kyrgios’ memorable 2022 campaign, Netflix brings fans inside a moment from the opposite side of the emotional spectrum — his withdrawal from the 2023 Australian Open due to injury.

“This feels pretty sh** to be honest,” Kyrgios said. “It’s gut-wrenching because I put hours, hours and hours and hours of work in. But when everything’s progressing pretty well, there’s always a problem.”

Kyrgios returned briefly during the grass-court season, losing his one match against Wu Yibing.

He feels more embraced
During an interview for Break Point, Kyrgios explained that he feels the public perception of him changed during 2022.

“Last year, I played in the Wimbledon final for the first time. After that match I think is when I felt the narrative change,” Kyrgios said.

“I think I’m more embraced by the crowds everywhere I go. I just wish that you guys were filming some of the stuff that was happening after Wimbledon, because the partying was insane.”

Nick dishes on Holger
Kyrgios is plenty familiar with operating under the spotlight at a young age. As a teen, he defeated Rafael Nadal at Wimbledon.

The Australian shared his thoughts on fellow Netflix player Holger Rune, 20, one of the brightest young stars in the sport..

“Holger’s gamestyle is super explosive. He’s got weapons everywhere. He’s got a bit of everything,” Kyrgios said. “He’s going to be super important for this sport moving forward, I think.”

He added: “Holger, he’s a hell of a player. He’s Top 10. But with that comes a lot of pressure as well, because every time you take the court now people are going to expect results.”

Kyrgios reflects on off-court influence
From early in his career, Kyrgios has been committed to giving back, including through his NK Foundation. When in one scene someone pointed out he had just raised substantial funds for charity, Kyrgios took a moment to reflect.

“Never thought I’d have the power to do that,” he said.

Kyrgios is a boy from Canberra who as one of the sport’s biggest stars is able to help others.

Kyrgios said: “I look back on where I started and it’s insane to me, because I literally wasn’t anything special."
