
Hamad Medjedovic’s season continued to gather pace on Thursday when the 20-year-old qualifier for Roland Garros.
The Serbian cruised past Frenchman Geoffrey Blancaneaux 6-2, 6-2 in the final qualifying round in Paris to seal his spot in the main draw. It will be the second time Medjedovic competes at the clay-court major, having lost in the first round last season.
After winning the 2023 Next Gen ATP Finals presented by PIF crown in December, Medjedovic missed two months of the 2024 season with a virus. However, he has looked back to his best in recent weeks, also advancing to the second round in Madrid and third round in Rome.
Japan's Shintaro Mochizuki qualified for Roland Garros for the first time. The 20-year-old, who reached the semi-finals at the tour-level event in Tokyo last season, advanced when Argentine Facundo Bagnis was forced to retire with Mochizuki leading 6-4, 2-0. Mochizuki has already competed in the main draws at Wimbledon (2023) and Australian Open (2024).
Monegasque Valentin Vacherot defeated Briton Billy Harris 7-6(2), 7-5 to qualify for his first major, while Italian Giulio Zeppieri sunk Finn Otto Virtanen 6-2, 6-2. Zeppieri reached the second round in Paris last year. Brazil's Gustavo Heide will make his major debut after downing Italian Matteo Gigante 6-3, 6-2.
Italian Mattia Bellucci clawed past Spaniard Alejandro Moro Canas 3-6, 6-2, 7-6(10-7). The No. 173 player in the PIF ATP Rankings played at the Australian Open in 2023. Canadian Gabriel Diallo sealed his spot in the main draw for the first time with a 2-6, 6-2, 6-3 win against Swiss Alexander Ritschard, while Frenchman Gregoire Barrere beat Denis Kudla 2-6, 6-2, 6-3. It will be the eighth time Barrere competes in the main draw at his home major.
