Carlos Alcaraz moved one step closer to a third consecutive Wimbledon title on Tuesday, when he dispatched home favourite Cameron Norrie to reach the semi-finals.

The No. 2 player in the PIF ATP Rankings, Alcaraz did not blink in a slick 6-2, 6-3, 6-3 triumph, during which he saved all five of the break points he faced. With his one-hour, 39-minute victory, Alcaraz became just the second active man to advance to three or more Wimbledon semi-finals, joining seven-time champion Novak Djokovic.

“I’m just really happy to be able to play another semi-final here at Wimbledon,” said Alcaraz. “It’s something really special and something that I wanted to do at the beginning of the week. I’m really happy with the level that I played today against a difficult player like Cam. I’m pretty sure that there is nobody working harder than him, so I’m happy to see him playing these kinds of matches.”

Competing in the quarter-finals at SW19 for the second time, Norrie attempted to outlast Alcaraz from the baseline. But the crafty Spaniard remained alert and often caught him out by charging to the net, where he won 14 of 16 points when playing serve and volley.

While Alcaraz was clinical in all departments against Norrie, he was particularly punishing behind his first serve. He found the spots with ease, winning 89 per cent (50/56) of first-serve points and firing 12 aces.

After notching his 23rd consecutive tour-level win, Alcaraz set a semi-final meeting with Taylor Fritz, against whom he owns a 2-0 lead in their Lexus ATP Head2Head series. The 22-year-old Spaniard is aiming to join Bjorn Borg as the only men in the Open Era to achieve the Roland Garros-Wimbledon double in consecutive years.

Fritz arrived at Wimbledon fresh from claiming his record-extending fourth Eastbourne title and triumphing in Stuttgart two weeks prior. The American, who is the second active man after Djokovic with five or more grass-court titles, is on a nine-match winning streak.

“He’s playing great,” Alcaraz said of Fritz. “He’s been really successful: Two titles, semi-finals here at Wimbledon… I’m just going to be ready for that battle. It’s always tough to play against him. I will just focus, but right now I want to enjoy and live this moment because it’s really not easy to play the semi-finals here.”

While he is unable to surpass Jannik Sinner to World No. 1 during the fortnight, Alcaraz is now 2,640 points ahead of the Italian atop the PIF ATP Live Race To Turin, which indicates who will claim ATP Year-End No. 1 presented by PIF honours. Alcaraz is chasing his sixth major trophy.
