Carlos Alcaraz is into the quarter-finals at the Rolex Paris Masters after Matteo Berrettini withdrew from the pair’s third-round clash.
The second-seeded Alcaraz, who overcame Alex Michelsen in his opening match in Paris, will now face home favourite Arthur Fils or Taylor Fritz in the last eight at the ATP Masters 1000 event. The Spaniard will be bidding to reach the semi-finals on the indoor hard courts of Paris for the first time in six appearances.
Currently 39-5 for the season, according to the Infosys ATP Win/Loss Index, Alcaraz is chasing his fifth tour-level title of the season this week in the French capital. He won his fourth last week in Vienna, and he will enter his quarter-final with Fils or Fritz on a six-match winning streak.
Alcaraz holds a 3-0 Lexus ATP Head2Head series leads against the seventh-seeded Fils, who on Wednesday joined the Spaniard in qualifying for the upcoming Nitto ATP Finals, while the Spaniard has won six of his seven tour-level meetings with Fritz.
The 11th-seeded Fritz is currently 11th in the PIF ATP Live Race To Turin and still has a chance to also reach Turin, although he knows he must defeat both Fils and Alcaraz to reach the semi-finals to keep his hopes alive.
