Carlos Alcaraz and Holger Rune continued their respective returns from injury on Monday, when they shared the court for a high-profile training session in Murcia, Alcaraz’s home city.
Born just six days apart in May 2003, Alcaraz and Rune have developed a close relationship over the years, having played junior doubles together before meeting four times on the ATP Tour. On Monday, they reunited for a practice session in the hot conditions in Murcia as both work towards a return to competition.
Alcaraz, the No. 2 player in the PIF ATP Rankings, has not competed since April’s ATP 500 event in Barcelona, where he withdrew ahead of his second-round match due to a right wrist injury. The Spaniard is the defending champion at the US Open, which begins on 30 August in New York.
Rune has been sidelined since last October, when he ruptured his Achilles in the Stockholm semi-finals. The 23-year-old subsequently underwent surgery as he began his rehabilitation. View the best photos from their practice session below.
