Carlos Alcaraz has revealed the story behind his moustache.
There has been plenty of talk about Alcaraz’s various haircuts throughout his career. But the moustache he is sporting at the Rolex Shanghai Masters is a new one.
“It’s going to stay for [the] week. I always wanted to step on the court at least once with the moustache,” Alcaraz said after his victory Saturday against Juan Manuel Cerundolo. “So before Tokyo, it was, it was like, ‘Alright, if I win the tournament, we all have to do the moustache’.”
When the Spaniard celebrated his triumph at the ATP 500 event in Tokyo with his team, one member of his entourage yelled, “Bigotes para todos!” That means “Moustaches for everyone!” And after his opening win in Shanghai, Alcaraz wrote on the camera: “Moustache team!”
“I’m playing Shanghai with the moustache. I think it's going to be fun,” Alcaraz said. “We are laughing around. We’re just having fun with it. So it came to stay.”
Alcaraz will hope to harness the power of his new facial hair to claim glory at this ATP Masters 1000 event for the first time.
