It was all smiles at the BNP Paribas Open on Saturday when Carlos Alcaraz and Iga Swiatek presented Indian Wells tournament director Tommy Haas and assistant tournament director Peggy Michel with the 2023 ATP Masters 1000 Tournament of the Year and the 2023 WTA 1000 Tournament of the Year Awards.
The hard-court event is held amidst the natural beauty and backdrop of the desert landscape. The Indian Wells Tennis Garden offers top-notch player facilities and amenities; plentiful practice courts that allow fans to watch players up close; and unparalleled dining options. The tournament has won the ATP award for the past nine years and consecutive 10 seasons on the WTA Tour.
Alcaraz and Swiatek have enjoyed success in the California desert, with the Spaniard triumphing in 2023 and Pole Swiatek lifting the trophy in 2022.
Former World No. 2 Haas was delighted about winning the ATP Masters 1000 Tournament of the Year Award when speaking in December following the announcement.
“We’re honoured to see the ATP players once again vote Indian Wells as their favourite 1000-level stop of the year,” Haas said last year. “This award reflects the dedicated support from all of our wonderful tournament staff, volunteers, fans and so many others who bring the BNP Paribas Open to life every year and contribute to the sustained success of our one-of-a-kind event.”
