Defending champion Carlos Alcaraz will begin his US Open campaign Monday, when he takes on Roman Safiullin in the first round.
The Spaniard will play World No. 98 Safiullin in the second day-session match inside Arthur Ashe Stadium. Aryna Sabalenka and Camila Osorio will open the day’s action at 11:30 a.m. EDT, with Alcaraz and Safiullin scheduled to follow. The pair’s Lexus ATP Head2Head series is tied at 1-1.
Alcaraz is set to compete in a singles match for the first time since Barcelona in April. The former No. 1 player in the PIF ATP Rankings has been sidelined with an injury for the past four months. Earlier this week, the Spaniard returned to action alongside Serena Williams in mixed doubles.
Alcaraz owns a 24-3 record in Flushing Meadows, highlighted by championship runs in 2022 and 2025. This fortnight in New York, the 23-year-old is chasing his eighth Grand Slam title and second major crown of the season after lifting the Australian Open trophy in January.
