
Martin Landaluce, Cristian Garin and Christopher Eubanks starred on Day 1 of qualifying for this year’s Australian Open.
#NextGenATP Spaniard Landaluce moved past Belgian Raphael Collignon 6-3, 6-3 to reach the second round of qualifying. The 18-year-old is aiming to make his major debut and will next play James Trotter after the Japanese star defeated Briton Daniel Evans 6-4, 3-6, 6-3.
American Eubanks beat Frenchman Hugo Grenier 7-6(1), 7-5. Eubanks reached the second round at the AO in 2023 and 2024.
Garin reached the third round in Melbourne in 2022 and started this year’s campaign with a 6-3, 6-1 win against Bolivian Murkel Dellien. The former Top 20 star in the PIF ATP Rankings will meet Laslo Djere in the second round. The Serbian beat Gustavo Heide 6-3, 6-1.
In other action, Croatian Duje Ajdukovic defeated former Top 10 star Richard Gasquet 7-6(4), 6-3, while Aleksandar Kovacevic 7-6(5), 6-4 overcame Andrea Collarini. Francesco Passarro defeated Guilo Zeppieri 6-3, 7-6(3) and Hugo Dellien beat Maximilian Marterer 6-3, 6-3.
Americans Brandon Holt and Mackenzie McDonald advanced. Holt beat Gianluca Mager 7-6(6), 6-2 and McDonald overcame Aussie Bolt 6-2, 6-2.
