Darwin Blanch has strengthened his bid for a debut appearance at the Next Gen ATP Finals after reaching his third ATP Challenger final in Fort Worth.
As a result of his run, the 19-year-old American Blanch climbed one place to sixth in the PIF ATP Live Race To Reggio Calabria. Blanch, who was raised in Thailand before returning to the United States, claimed his maiden Challenger title in Tiburon last month and now holds a 36-point lead over seventh-placed Joel Schwaerzler.
With the season entering its final stretch, Blanch has taken another important step towards qualifying for the 20-and-under Next Gen ATP Finals, which will be held in Italy from 9-13 December. However, with a place at the season-ending event still to be secured, the teenager will be eager to maintain his momentum.
Frenchmen Felix Balshaw and Moise Kouame also bolstered their positions in the Live Race with victories on home soil at the ATP 250 event in Lyon. Balshaw, the son of 2003 Rugby World Cup-winning England international Iain Balshaw, earned his first tour-level victory to jump to eighth, while 17-year-old Kouame is ninth, just three points behind the 20-year-old.
