Playing his first match on the ATP Challenger Tour since 2022, Tallon Griekspoor made a seamless return Thursday at the BNP Paribas Primrose Bordeaux.
The World No. 35 extended his winning streak at that level to 31 matches following a 6-3, 6-4 victory against Billy Harris.
The Dutchman enjoyed a historic season on the Challenger Tour in 2021, when he won a record eight titles — including five in a row — and set a new mark for the longest winning streak at that level with 25 consecutive victories. He capped the year with a 42-7 match record.

The following year, he lifted the trophy in his lone Challenger appearance, bringing his winning streak to 30. Griekspoor’s latest victory at the Challenger 175 clay-court event books his place in the quarter-finals.
“I always said it when I was playing the Challengers myself, that the Challengers are so strong,” said Griekspoor, who awaits a French lefty, either Hugo Gaston or Terence Atmane. “There are so many good guys, so many young guys, you have guys who are trying to come back who have been Top 20 and now 230 in the world.
"So I’ve always said, in my opinion, Challengers sometimes are tougher to play than the ATPs. The class you see in the players, everyone is so motivated.”
Top seed Brandon Nakashima also advanced. The American, No. 29 in the PIF ATP Rankings, dispatched Mikhail Kukushkin 6-3, 7-5. Rinky Hijikata overcame second seed Sebastian Baez 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 while former No. 16 Nikoloz Basilashvili defeated fifth seed Quentin Halys 7-6(7), 7-6(4).
Cobolli’s campaign underway in Turin
Flavio Cobolli is into the quarter-finals of the Piemonte Open Intesa Sanpaolo, where the top seed ousted Andrea Collarini 7-6(4), 7-6(7) to kickstart his campaign.
Third seed Tomas Martin Etcheverry also needed two tie-breaks, downing Vitaliy Sachko 7-6(2), 7-6(8). Etcheverry’s countryman Camilo Ugo Carabelli, seeded fifth, defeated home hope Luca Nardi 6-2, 6-4. Defending champion Francesco Passaro beat second seed Luciano Darderi 7-6(3), 6-4.
China’s Buyunchaokete spoiled the hopes of fan favourite Fabio Fognini, earning a 7-5, 6-2 win against the 37-year-old Italian.
