Alex de Minaur and Katie Boulter will be rivals at the United Cup for the second consecutive year when Australia faces Great Britain on 1 January. But this edition's clash will be slightly different.
The longtime partners are now engaged. The couple announced the news on social media Monday.
"We’ve been keeping a small secret… ðŸ¤," Boulter wrote on Instagram. The post included a selfie of the duo in which Boulter was sporting an engagement ring.
Many of their colleagues quickly congratulated the couple on their engagement, including Emma Raducanu, Denis Shapovalov, Thanasi Kokkinakis, Madison Keys, Marta Kostyuk, Alejandro Davidovich Fokina and many more.
De Minaur already had plenty of reasons to be positive heading into the new season. After qualifying for the Nitto ATP Finals for the first time, he begins a season ranked inside the Top 10 of the PIF ATP Rankings for the first time.
And he brings into the United Cup memories of three Top 10 wins from the event last year, including a first win in his Lexus ATP Head2Head series with Novak Djokovic. De Minaur needs one win in Sydney to capture his 250th career match win, according to the Infosys ATP Win-Loss Index.
De Minaur and Boulter are both beginning their season in Sydney at the mixed teams event.
Australia begins its run against Argentina on the evening of 28 December. Great Britain faces Argentina on 30 December before Australia and Great Britain meet on 1 January.
