Can Jiri Lehecka go one step better this week and triumph at the BNP Paribas Fortis European Open in Brussels?

The second seed fell in the title match at the ATP 250 event 12 months ago but made a winning start to this week’s campaign on Thursday, when he dispatched Belgian Raphael Collignon 6-4, 6-2 to reach the quarter-finals.

Lehecka is seeking his first trophy of the season and arrives in Brussels in good form, having advanced to the championship match in Tokyo earlier this month, losing to Carlos Alcaraz. In an impressive serving display against Collignon, Lehecka fired nine aces, won 87 per cent of his first-serve points and saved the only break point he faced to reach his seventh quarter-final of 2026.

The No. 20 player in the PIF ATP Rankings has also now earned 37 victories this year, moving him one clear of countryman Jakub Mensik for the most wins by Czech players on the ATP Tour in 2026. Lehecka will seek his 38th win when he meets Tallon Griekspoor in the last eight.

In other action, David Goffin’s storied career came to an end. The Belgian star was competing in his final tournament and lost to Alex Michelsen, who earned a 6-3, 6-4 win against the home favourite.

Goffin reached a career-high No. 7 in the PIF ATP Rankings and lifted six tour-level trophies. The 35-year-old also earned at least one Lexus ATP Head2Head victory against each of Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, Stan Wawrinka, Daniil Medvedev and Carlos Alcaraz.

After Goffin's final match, the tournament held an emotional on-court ceremony for the Belgian, with messages of support and gratitude played for the 35-year-old.

Michelsen will next play top seed Arthur Fils, who received a walkover from Jaume Munar.

One of the players in the video supporting Goffin was Zizou Bergs. The 27-year-old Bergs, one of the Belgian's taking the baton on from Goffin, beat Damir Dzumhur 6-2, 6-4 in 78 minutes to advance. Bergs, who lifted his first and lone tour-level trophy earlier this season in Eastbourne, will next meet Jan-Lennard Struff.
