#NextGenATP star Joao Fonseca and former World No. 4 Kei Nishikori are in a loaded ATP Challenger Tour draw this week at the Arizona Tennis Classic.
Fonseca, who won the 2024 Next Gen ATP Finals presented by PIF and claimed his first ATP Tour title last month in Buenos Aires, begins against Pavel Kotov, with the winner set to face fourth seed Jan-Lennard Struff in the second round. Nishikori is in the Brazilian’s half of the draw. The 12-time tour-level titlist will face sixth seed Luca Nardi in a blockbuster first-round clash.
Portugal’s Nuno Borges leads the field as the top seed in Phoenix, where he is aiming for a three-peat. Borges, one of four Top 50 players in Phoenix, defeated Matteo Berrettini in last year’s final.
Other players in Phoenix include second seed Flavio Cobolli, third seed Pedro Martinez, Reilly Opelka, Christopher Eubanks and Alexander Bublik.
This week will also feature the inaugural Challenger 175 event in Cap Cana, Dominican Republic. Frenchman Alexandre Muller and Argentina’s Tomas Martin Etcheverry are the top two seeds, respectively, at the Republica Dominicana Open, Copa Cap Cana Ciudad Destino.
#NextGenATP Czech and fifth seed Jakub Mensik is in the field and will meet Chilean Cristian Garin in the opening round. Former Top 10 players Cameron Norrie and Fabio Fognini are in the top half and could face each other in the second round.
