#NextGenATP stars Joao Fonseca and Jakub Mensik are among the players entered in the season's first ATP Challenger Tour 175 events in Phoenix and Cap Cana, respectively, which run from 10-16 March.
Introduced in 2023, the Challenger 175 category tournaments are held during the second week of select ATP Masters 1000 events. Players who exit early from the Indian Wells draw could appear at the Arizona Tennis Classic or at the inaugural Cap Cana Challenger in the Dominican Republic.
Among the Phoenix entrants, subject to change, include 2024 Next Gen ATP Finals presented by PIF champion Fonseca, who last week won his maiden ATP Tour title in Buenos Aires. The 18-year-old, who won the Canberra Challenger to begin his 2025 season, is one of the fastest-rising stars in the sport.
Fonseca became the fourth-youngest player to win an ATP Tour trophy and an ATP Challenger Tour in the same season, alongside Lleyton Hewitt, Carlos Alcaraz and Kei Nishikori.
Former World No. 4 Nishikori is also on the Phoenix entry list. Portugal’s Nuno Borges could have an opportunity to seek a three-peat in Arizona, where last year he beat Matteo Berrettini in the final. Other Phoenix entrants include Italian Flavio Cobolli, Spaniard Pedro Martinez, Jan-Lennard Struff, Alexander Bublik and more.
The 19-year-old Mensik highlights the possible starters in Cap Cana. Mensik is at a career-high No. 45 in the PIF ATP Rankings and is aiming for a return trip to the 20-and-under event in Jeddah. The heavy-hitting Czech boasts a 5-3 record against Top 10 players in the past 12 months. He reached the Doha championship match last year, becoming the youngest finalist in tournament history.
Other players on the Cap Cana entry list include Cameron Norrie, Alejandro Tabilo, Brandon Nakashima, Tomas Martin Etcheverry, David Goffin and Tallon Griekspoor.
Each entry list features five Top 50 players in the PIF ATP Rankings and boasts a main-draw cutoff within the Top 100.
