Reaching the pinnacle of our sport is one thing, but to be the youngest to ever do it is a rare distinction. After clinching his maiden major crown at the 2022 US Open, 19-year-old Alcaraz carved his name into the history books as the youngest player to reach No. 1 in the PIF ATP Rankings. Alcaraz’s rise to the summit was no flash in the pan, either. He also won two ATP Masters 1000 titles and finished as Year-End No. 1 during his breakthrough season and has not looked back since.
The next Spanish superstar
Following in the footsteps of Nadal, Carlos Moya and Juan Carlos Ferrero as the fourth Spaniard to climb to World No. 1, Alcaraz has embraced the mantle of Spain’s next tennis icon with grace and determination. Already with four major trophies to his name, Alcaraz trails only Nadal (22) in the list of male Spanish Grand Slam singles champions. Yet his rapid surge to 200 tour-level wins is just one of the areas where Alcaraz has already topped Nadal.
The one to be scared of
Alcaraz is not just a player to admire - he is a player to fear. While his fierce rival Jannik Sinner stole many of the headlines in 2024 as he soared to ATP Year-End No. 1 presented by PIF honours, Alcaraz laid down a statement of intent by winning all three of the pair’s Lexus ATP Head2Head meetings. This, coupled with his 12-5 win-loss record against Top 10 opponents in 2024, further highlights his ability to bring his best out against the game’s biggest stars.
