Carreno Busta returns to Challenger titletown in Murcia, home of Alcaraz

Former World No. 10 Pablo Carreno Busta is still producing a high level, even at age 34.

In an all-Spanish final Sunday at the ATP Challenger event in Murcia — home to World No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz — Carreno Busta downed Roberto Carballes Baena 6-4, 6-3 to lift the trophy.

Making his first Challenger appearance since last October in Olbia, where Carreno Busta was a finalist, the Tour-veteran is in good position to return to the Top 100, up 21 places to No. 96 in the PIF ATP Live Rankings.

Carreno Busta’s title run at the VII CHALLENGER COSTA CALIDA REGION DE MURCIA marks his 15th ATP Challenger title.

Mmoh wins first title in more than three years
Michael Mmoh capped a hard-fought week at the Morelos Open in Mexico by earning the champion’s trophy. Needing a deciding set in his final three matches, the American earned his eighth Challenger title and first since October 2022.

The 28-year-old, who beat Taro Daniel 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 in the hard-court final, reached a career-high No. 81 in September 2023, but has since been plagued with injuries. Having begun the week at World No. 351, Mmoh is up 100 places in the PIF ATP Live Rankings following his title run.

Cadenasso, Travaglia also triumph
Italians Gianluca Cadenasso and Stefano Travaglia also reached the winner’s circle.

The 21-year-old Cadenasso won his maiden Challenger title in just his 10th appearance at that level, triumphing at the Munich Ultra Paraguay Open. Cadenasso dropped just one set all week and defeated Uruguay’s Franco Roncadelli 7-6(5), 6-0 in the championship match.

Travaglia won his seventh Challenger crown at the Zadar Open in Croatia. The 34-year-old led Arthur Gea 2-1 in the final when the Frenchman retired due to a right leg injury.
