Denis Shapovalov is competing in Chengdu for the first time since 2019.

Denis Shapovalov wasted little time in booking his quarter-final spot at the Chengdu Open Friday.
The seventh seed cruised past Vit Kopriva 6-2, 6-3 in just 64 minutes to advance at the ATP 250 event. Shapovalov remained largely solid on serve throughout the clash, winning 92 per cent (23/25) of his first-serve points and converting four of the six break points he earned, according to Infosys ATP Stats.
After sealing the first set in just 24 minutes, Shapovalov raced to a 3-0 lead in the second set before Kopriva levelled at 3-3. But the 27-year-old responded immediately and clinched the next three games to seal the win and march into the last eight.
"Definitely very happy, especially how clean most of the match was for me," Shapovalov said following his victory. "A little hiccup in the second set but in general very clean for me, serving really well."
Shapovalov, now through to his fourth ATP Tour quarter-final of the season, will face third seed Alejandro Tabilo or Adrian Mannarino for a place in the semi-finals in Chengdu.
