Alexander Bublik and home hope Shang Juncheng made a thrilling start to their China Open doubles campaign Wednesday.
The wild cards rallied past fellow singles stars Francisco Cerundolo and Arthur Rinderknech 3-6, 6-4, 10-7 in the first round at the Chinese ATP 500 event.
Despite dropping the opening set, Bublik and Shang held their nerve and survived in the crucial moments. The Kazakhstani-Chinese pair finished having saved seven of the nine break points it faced, according to Infosys ATP Stats, to advance after one hour and 12 minutes.
The next test for the duo will be a quarter-final showdown with fourth seeds Sadio Doumbia and Fabien Reboul or Argentine quaifiers Maximo Gonzalez and Andres Molteni.
