Play at the Cincinnati Open has resumed after an approximately 45-minute Tuesday rain delay at the ATP Masters 1000 event, where Francisco Comesana returned to court to complete a nailbiting third-round victory.

Comesana saved three match points — one before the rain delay and two after — when serving at 5-4 in the deciding set against Reilly Opelka. Home favourite Opelka then called a medical timeout before Comesana went on to complete a 6-7(4), 6-4, 7-5 comeback triumph.

The No. 2 in the PIF ATP Rankings Carlos Alcaraz’s third-round clash with Hamad Medjedovic is the next match scheduled on P & G Center Court, where Toronto champion and home favourite Ben Shelton will later take on Roberto Bautista Agut.

On Court 3, ninth seed Andrey Rublev led 21st seed Alexei Popyrin 6-7(5), 7-6(5), 2-1 when the rain arrived, with Australian Popyrin serving at 30/30. Third seed Alexander Zverev later faces Brandon Nakashima on Grandstand. Zverev leads Nakashima 4-0 in the pair's Lexus ATP Head2Head series.
