There will be no mad-dash repeat for Alex de Minaur to watch his girlfriend Katie Boulter this fortnight, instead just a casual walk across the Indian Wells Tennis Garden, where the couple is competing at the BNP Paribas Open.
Less than 12 hours after the Australian De Minaur defended his title at last week’s ATP 500 event in Acapulco, he was in San Diego, eager to watch Boulter lift her biggest WTA trophy. Now De Minaur and Boulter will look to build upon their momentum at the combined 1000 event in California, where they sat down for a joint interview on media day.
“Hopefully we can keep it going. It was a perfect weekend that ended with a nice In-N-Out,” De Minaur said with a smile about their celebration at the iconic burger restaurant. “I hadn’t watch a live match of her’s up until that day. Katie went out there and smashed it and made it an unbelievable weekend.”
“It was actually quite a nice way that it worked out,” Boulter added. “He was always one upping me and I wanted to match him. It kind of felt like a nice little role going on for the rest of the week. It just made me want the final even more because he won.”
