Swiss Dylan Dietrich, a senior standout at the University of Virginia, claimed his second consecutive ATP Challenger title Sunday.
The top player in the ITA preseason singles rankings, Dietrich triumphed at the MarketBeat Open in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, where he overcame Liam Draxl 1-6, 6-3, 6-4 in the final. The 22-year-old also won the Columbus Challenger four weeks prior to his Sioux Falls showing.
“This one is special,” Dietrich said. “It is even bigger than the one in Columbus because this was a 100. I haven't played that many events this big. This is the third biggest tournament I have played in my life, so I am super happy to get the win here. It just shows that I am headed in the right direction and the hard work is paying off.”
Dietrich in June was among 23 college players to qualify for the PIF ATP Next Gen Accelerator, an initiative between ATP and the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) was created to increase the development pathway for top players in the American collegiate system. Dietrich qualified for the second consecutive year.
The 2026 ITA National Player of the Year, Dietrich was World No. 1,011 in the PIF ATP Rankings this time last season. Following his title run at the indoor hard-court event, the Zurich native is at a career-high No. 189.
Dietrich will now return to his home campus at the University of Virginia, where this week he will compete at the Charlottesville Challenger. Former Virginia star Rafael Jodar won the tournament last season, having defeated teammate Dietrich in the quarter-finals. On Monday, Jodar made his Top 10 debut.
Dietrich is one of five Challenger champions this week. #NextGenATP 17-year-old Moise Kouame made history by winning his first trophy at that level in Brest, France. Read more about the Frenchman’s milestone victory here.
Former junior No. 1 Yaroslav Demin won the Yinzhou Bank Challenger, his maiden title at that level. The 21-year-old ousted Petr Bar Biryukov 5-7, 6-2, 7-6(6) in the championship match. Demin is now at a career-high No. 358 in the PIF ATP Rankings.
Terence Atmane won the Eugene Seoul Open, clinching his sixth championship point to get past Coleman Wong 7-6(3), 3-6, 7-6(9). Bolivia’s Hugo Dellien triumphed at the Challenger Ciudad de Guayaquil, where in the final he led Joaquin Aguilar Cardozo 7-5, 1-0 when the Uruguayan retired due to injury.
