Novak Djokovic is already in Madrid working hard in preparation for the Mutua Madrid Open, the fourth ATP Masters 1000 event of the season.
The Serbian trained under the watchful eye of coach Andy Murray on Saturday at the Caja Magica. The former No. 1 player in the PIF ATP Rankings is a three-time champion in Madrid.
This will be the 37-year-old's first appearance at the tournament since 2022, when he lost to Carlos Alcaraz in a final-set tie-break in the semi-finals. It was the pair's first Lexus ATP Head2Head meeting.
Djokovic owns a 30-9 record at the Mutua Madrid Open according to the Infosys ATP Win/Loss Index. He triumphed in 2011, 2016 and 2019. In 2016, his championship victory came against Murray.
The 40-time Masters 1000 champion is still pursuing his 100th tour-level trophy. Djokovic recently had an opportunity to join Jimmy Connors (109 titles) and Roger Federer (103 titles) in the history books in the Miami final, but fell short against Jakub Mensik.
Murray was recently with Djokovic in Indian Wells and Miami, but was not in Monte-Carlo, where Alejandro Tabilo upset the 99-time tour-level titlist in the second round.
