Lloyd Glasspool and Jean-Julien Rojer continued their impressive start as a team on Wednesday when they advanced to the second round at the Australian Open. The Briton-Dutch pair beat Tallon Griekspoor and Bart Stevens 7-6(2), 6-2.
Glasspool and Rojer, who teamed to win the title in Brisbane earlier this month, will next play Andre Goransson and Albano Olivetti or Blake Ellis and Andrew Harris.
Twelfth-seeded Americans Nathaniel Lammons and Jackson Withrow survived three dramatic sets against Czechs Jiri Lehecka and Petr Nouza to move on with a 3-6, 7-5, 6-4 win. With the Czech team leading 4-3 in the final set, Nouza double faulted on a foot fault to open the door to a furious comeback.
Lammons and Withrow, who converted just one of their first nine break points, cashed in on their last two as part of a four-game run to close out the match.
Also in early action, fourth seeds Horacio Zeballos and Marcel Granollers advanced with a 6-3, 7-6(3) victory against Americans Evan King and Reese Stalder. Seventh seeds Hugo Nys and Jan Zielinski joined them in the second round with a 6-7(5), 7-5, 6-2 win against Aussies James McCabe and Dane Sweeny.
Kevin Krawietz and Tim Puetz defeated Marcos Giron and Soonwoo Kwon 6-2, 6-0, while Santiago Gonzalez and Neal Skupski overcame Mackenzie McDonald and Botic van de Zandschulp 7-6(6), 6-1.
Rajeev Ram and Joe Salisbury, who won the title together in Melbourne in 2020, started this year's quest with a 7-6(4), 7-5 win against Marcelo Melo and Matwe Middelkoop.
