Jack Draper and Casper Ruud made a big impact on the PIF ATP Live Race To Turin with their efforts at the Mutua Madrid Open.
The top end of the Live Race looks a lot different than it did before the tournament thanks to the performance of the finalists. Ruud battled past Draper in a thrilling final on Sunday.
Draper climbed from fourth to second by making the final, passing Alexander Zverev and Jannik Sinner. The Briton has never previously qualified for the Nitto ATP Finals, and while it is still early in the season, he is now within just 450 points of Carlos Alcaraz's top spot.
Player | Points |
1) Carlos Alcaraz | 2,740 |
2) Jack Draper | 2,290 |
3) Alexander Zverev | 2,275 |
4) Jannik Sinner | 2,000 |
5) Casper Ruud | 1,825 |
6) Alex de Minaur | 1,685 |
7) Novak Djokovic | 1,530 |
8) Jakub Mensik | 1,530 |
The biggest move came from Ruud, who was 24th in the Live Race to start the Mutua Madrid Open. The Norwegian had not advanced further than the quarter-finals of any tournament since reaching the Dallas final in the first week of February. But with the first ATP Masters 1000 title of his career and the 1,000 points that came with it, Ruud surged 19 places to fifth.

It was an important climb for the 26-year-old, who has played in three of the past four editions of the Nitto ATP Finals. He rocketed from 625 points out of a qualification spot to now sitting 295 points ahead of eighth-placed Jakub Mensik.
Like Draper, eighth-placed Mensik is trying to qualify for the season finale for the first time. Mensik bounced back from a first-round exit in Munich to make the Madrid quarter-finals and keep himself firmly in contention for Turin.
Ninth-placed Francisco Cerundolo moved closer to contention by advancing to the semi-finals at the Caja Magica. The Argentine's victory against Mensik in the last eight allowed him to claw to within 15 points of the Czech. Cerundolo is also trying to make his debut at the year-end championships.
Despite missing Madrid due to an adductor injury, Alcaraz maintained a healthy 450-point advantage. The Spaniard is not only attempting to create an iron grip on a Nitto ATP Finals spot, but position himself to pursue ATP Year-End No. 1 presented by PIF honours.
Sinner will return to action at the Internazionali BNL d'Italia having not competed since winning the Australian Open. The Italian is fourth in the Live Race and will look to quickly find his rhythm to further secure his standing.
