Fabio Fognini has long been one of the most entertaining players on the ATP Tour. The Italian recently gave that new meaning.
The former No. 9 player in the PIF ATP Rankings participated in Ballando con le Stelle, Italy’s version of Dancing With The Stars, the show in which celebrities compete in ballroom dancing alongside a professional partner.
"I have always had a love-hate relationship with dance. In fact, I've never really danced in my life, and those few times I've been taken to the dance floor I've always felt a bit awkward... a 'tree trunk,' as we say in Italy,” Fognini said. “But instead, when this opportunity presented itself, I immediately accepted and jumped in. It was a completely new experience for me and I have to admit that I had a great time.”
The 37-year-old completed his season on a high by winning an ATP Challenger Tour title in Montemar, Spain. The good times carried over to the dance floor for the nine-time ATP Tour titlist. Many members of the ATP community shared their praise on social media.
“I felt at home ... and for this I would like to thank the host Milly Carlucci for giving me this opportunity, Giada Lini, my teacher, who in just a few hours managed to prepare me and helped me not to make mistakes in choreography, and the whole 'Dancing with the Stars' team,” Fognini said.
“The compliments from Zverev and Becker? They made me happy and I thank them. It was a fun experience... and I don't rule out doing it again in the future.”
