Joao Fonseca announced on Saturday his withdrawal from the Bitpanda Hamburg Open due to discomfort in his right wrist.
“Hey, everyone. Just wanted to let you know that I won’t be able to play at the @bitpandahamburgopen this year. I’ve been experiencing some slight discomfort in my right wrist since I arrived,” Fonseca wrote on Instagram. “Together with my team, I’ve decided it’s best to withdraw as a precaution. Also, I want to thank the tournament for all their support and hospitality. See you all at RG!”
The Brazilian has tallied a 10-9 record this season according to the Infosys ATP Win/Loss Index and reached two clay-court quarter-finals, in Monte-Carlo and Munich.
Fonseca pushed Jannik Sinner to two tie-breaks at Indian Wells, won a set against Alexander Zverev in Monte-Carlo and took a set from Ben Shelton in Munich.
The 19-year-old is the No. 30 player in the PIF ATP Live Rankings.
