Alexei Popyrin recorded his 100th tour-level win on Sunday at the Gonet Geneva Open, where he earned victory against Nicolas Jarry on his tournament debut.
The fifth-seeded Australian, who clinched his maiden tour-level victory in Basel in 2018 against Matthew Ebden, struck 19 winners and recovered from squandering a break advantage in the third set to eventually prevail 6-4, 3-6, 7-5.
With his two-hour, 29-minute win, Popyrin levelled his Lexus ATP Head2Head series with Jarry at 2-2. Next up for the No. 25 in the PIF ATP Rankings is Serbian wild card Dusan Lajovic or Briton Jacob Fearnley.
In other action at the ATP 250 clay-court event, Nuno Borges defeated Alex Michelsen 4-6, 6-3, 6-3. Borges saved 80 per cent of break points faced, according to Infosys ATP Stats, improving to 11-2 in first rounds in 2025. The 28-year-old will next play a qualifier.
Novak Djokovic is the second seed in Geneva, having accepted a wild card into the event for the second consecutive year. The 37-year-old Serbian plays Marton Fucsovics or Zizou Bergs in the second round.
