Luciano Darderi spoiled the German party on Sunday at the Bitpanda Hamburg Open, where he overcame home wild card Diego Dedura 6-1, 6-4.
The Italian dominated on his first serve throughout the 70-minute clash, winning 90 per cent (26/29) of points behind his opening delivery, according to Infosys ATP Stats, against the #NextGenATP German Dedura, who was making his Hamburg debut.
Darderi has fond memories playing on clay in Germany, having reached the quarter-finals in Hamburg last season and the last eight at the ATP 500 in Munich in April. The No. 46 in the PIF ATP Rankings will next play seventh seed Brandon Nakashima or Belgian qualifier Raphael Collignon.
Fourth seed Francisco Cerundolo continued his good form with a 6-2, 6-3 win against Pedro Martinez. The Argentine reached the semi-finals at the ATP Masters 1000 event in Madrid earlier this month. Cerundolo, a former semi-finalist in Hamburg, will next face Jiri Lehecka or Borna Gojo.
Alexander Zverev is the top seed in Hamburg. The 28-year-old will face American qualifier Aleksandar Kovacevic in the first round on Monday.
