Rublev earns 400th tour-level win, faces Medvedev in Hangzhou final

Andrey Rublev reached a major career milestone on Monday at the AITO Hangzhou Open, where the second seed earned his 400th tour-level victory to reach the final.

Rublev raced past Kyrian Jacquet 7-6(0), 6-1 and now owns the ninth-most tour-level wins among active players. He boasts a 400-226 career record, according to the Infosys ATP Win/Loss Index.

After a tight opening set, Rublev took complete control in the second, producing a near-flawless display to pull away from the Frenchman. The 28-year-old repeatedly opened up the court with sharp angles and clean winners as he booked his place in his third final of the season.

The second-seeded Rublev, who won the title in Bastad earlier this year, will now face Daniil Medvedev in a final between the top two seeds.

Medvedev also reached a milestone on Monday, defeating Roman Safiullin 7-5, 6-4 for his 350th hard-court victory, the fourth most among active men.

“I think it’s [my] second final with Andrey,” Medvedev, who defeated Rublev in the 2023 Dubai final, said. “We’ve played a lot of matches and done a lot of things on the ATP Tour, so I’m really happy to see him on the other side of the net. It’s going to be a tough match for both of us.”

Medvedev will contest his fourth final of the season, having lifted trophies in Brisbane and Dubai before finishing runner-up at the ATP Masters 1000 event in Indian Wells. The 30-year-old is also in position to return to the Nitto ATP Finals, sitting eighth in the PIF ATP Live Race To Turin.

Tuesday’s final will be the 10th Lexus ATP Head2Head meeting between the pair, with Medvedev leading their rivalry 7-2. They have not faced each other since the 2023 Nitto ATP Finals.

Medvedev will chase his 24th tour-level title in Hangzhou, while Rublev will bid to add a 19th trophy to his collection.
