Kyrian Jacquet is on a roll at the AITO Hangzhou Open.
The 25-year-old notched a milestone win Sunday at the Chinese ATP 250 event, where he upset sixth seed Fabian Marozsan 7-6(12), 6-4 to advance to his first ATP Tour semi-final.
Jacquet, who stunned third seed Tomas Martin Etcheverry in the second round, continued his run with a solid performance against Marozsan. In his maiden Lexus ATP Head2Head meeting with the Hungarian, the Frenchman saved three set points in the opening-set tie-break, before fending off two break points while serving for the match at 5-4 in the second set.
"It was a great match. I had to stay focused during the entire match because it was really tough," Jacquet said. "I am really happy about my performance today, my attitude and everything else. It was really strong and that's why I won. I am really proud of myself."
Jacquet finished having saved all three break points he faced, according to Infosys ATP Stats, to advance after one hour and 47 minutes. The Frenchman, who is up 25 spots to No. 85 in the PIF ATP Live Rankings, will face second seed Andrey Rublev after the No. 25 player in the PIF ATP Rankings beat Hugo Gaston 6-7(6), 7-6(4), 6-1.
Rublev was just three points from defeat in the closing stages of the second set, but survived and is now just two wins away from capturing his second title of the year (Bastad) and 19th overall, according to the Infosys ATP Win/Loss Index.
Top seed Daniil Medvedev continued his way through the draw in the last match of the day, battling past Coleman Wong 6-3, 6-7(2), 6-3.
Medvedev fell in the Hangzhou quarter-finals last year, but would not do so again. The 30-year-old hit 18 aces and saved five of the six break points he faced.
It is an important week for Medvedev, who is eighth in the PIF ATP Live Race To Turin. The six-time Nitto ATP Finals competitor now has a 371-point lead ahead of ninth-placed Rafael Jodar.
His next opponent will be Roman Safiullin, who eliminated Buyunchaokete 6-3, 6-3. Safiullin is trying to reach his second ATP Tour final, after making his first in Chengdu three years ago.
