Orlando Luz and Rafael Matos secured back-to-back ATP Masters 1000 titles on Sunday when they triumphed at the Cincinnati Open.
The Brazilians 10 days ago won their maiden ATP Masters 1000 crown in Montreal and did not take long to follow that up with another trophy in Cincinnati. Luz and Matos defeated Constantin Frantzen and Robin Haase 6-4, 3-6, 10-7 in the final, their third match this week in which they needed a Match Tie-break.
“If I said that I would believe this, it would be a lie,” Luz said in disbelief. “We’re very happy to do this. Incredible two weeks, getting two titles — I have no words.”
Luz and Matos are the fifth team in the Open Era to complete the 'Summer Sweep' by winning the ATP Masters 1000 events in Canada and Cincinnati in the same season. They are the first since Pierre-Hugues Herbert and Nicolas Mahut in 2017.
“At 9/7, I was very nervous to hit a second serve,” Matos said. “But I’m just glad that I made the serve and [Frantzen] missed.”
Up to sixth in the PIF ATP Live Doubles Teams Rankings, Luz and Matos are aiming to qualify for the year-end Nitto ATP Finals for the first time. The duo has lifted four titles in 2026: Buenos Aires, Santiago, Montreal and Cincinnati.
