Hamad Medjedovic earned the biggest win of his career on Saturday at the Open 13 Provence in Marseille, where he upset World No. 8 Daniil Medvedev to record his first Top 10 win and reach his second ATP Tour final.

The Serbian was aggressive on return throughout the 73-minute clash, winning 76 per cent (13/17) of points on Medvedev’s second serve, according to Infosys ATP Stats, to clinch a statement 6-3, 6-2 win.

"I think I played one of my best matches of the week," Medjedovic said. "I am really happy. I delivered on my tactics, had a great performance and I am really happy to be through."

Medvedev has struggled to find his best level at the start of the season. The 29-year-old suffered a second-round defeat to #NextGenATP American Learner Tien at the Australian Open and then lost in the second round in Rotterdam to Italian qualifier Mattia Bellucci.

Despite showing signs of improvement in Marseille with wins against Pierre-Hugues Herbert and Jan-Lennard Struff, Medvedev was unable to find his best tennis against Medjedovic, who overpowered the 20-time tour-level titlist in the baseline exchanges to advance.

The former Next Gen ATP Finals presented by PIF champion Medjedovic, who lost to Denis Shapovalov in the final in Belgrade last season, is up 24 spots to No. 72 in the PIF ATP Live Rankings. The 21-year-old will face defending champion Ugo Humbert on Sunday.

It All Adds Up

Humbert continued his love affair with the Open 13 Provence where he reached the final in Marseille once again.

The Frenchman delivered a rock-solid display against Zizou Bergs to earn a 6-4, 6-4 win in 89 minutes in front of a vocal home crowd at the ATP 250 indoor hard-court event.

Humbert defeated Grigor Dimitrov in the championship match 12 months ago and is now the seventh player to reach back-to-back finals in Marseille. The 26-year-old will have another chance to add to his trophy haul on Sunday when he takes on Medjedovic.

“It is not easy to achieve back-to-back finals. I won last year so it is a different pressure. I am in the final again and super proud,” said Humbert, who holds a 12-2 record at the event.

Humbert is now 17-1 in his past 18 indoor matches played on home soil. This run includes titles in Metz 2023 and Marseille last year, as well as reaching the final at the ATP Masters 1000 in Paris in November (l. to Zverev).

The second seed struck 10 winners and saved the only break point he faced against Bergs, according to Infosys ATP Stats, to triumph in the pair's first Lexus ATP Head2Head series.

Bergs, 25, was aiming to reach his second tour-level final of the season after advancing to the championship match in Auckland. The Belgian is up four spots to No. 58 in the PIF ATP Live Rankings following his run.

“He had a final in Auckland so I knew it would not be easy,” Humbert said on Bergs. “He has a super aggressive game with a big serve. I am super happy with my performance today. Everything was not perfect but I am happy that I am back in the final in Marseille.”
