Aidan Mayo is leaving the island of Jamaica with his second ATP Challenger trophy in tow.
The 23-year-old American made the best possible use of a lucky-loser spot at the Kingston Open 2, going all the way to the title.
Mayo won Saturday’s final against Andres Andrade 6-3, 7-6(7), after saving four set points in the second set to avoid a decider. Mayo lost just one set across five main-draw matches. It marks the Sacramento native’s first Challenger triumph since November 2024.
Mayo, up to World No. 362 in the PIF ATP Rankings, is the second lucky loser Challenger champion this season, joining David Jorda Sanchis (Lyon).
Cretu becomes first Romanian Challenger champion in eight years
Romania’s Cezar Cretu claimed his maiden Challenger crown at the Schwaben Open in Germany, where he raced past Argentine Facundo Mena 6-2, 6-0 in a 58-minute final.
Now at a career-high No. 230, the 25-year-old Cretu is the first Romanian Challenger champion since Dragos Dima in 2018.
Loffhagen wins all-British final in Roehampton
Briton George Loffhagen capped a dream week on home soil, securing his second Challenger trophy and first of this season at the Lexus Roehampton Challenger 2. Loffhagen defeated countryman Charles Broom 7-5, 6-3 in the title match.
