Daniil Medvedev and Gilles Cervara, who have worked together for eight years, announced their split on social media Sunday.

“Thank you Gilles ❤️,” Medvedev wrote on Instagram. “Amazing 8-10 years together, 20 titles, world number 1, but most importantly a lot of fun moments and memories that will stay with us forever. I am grateful to you for guiding me through all these years and let’s see what life brings us in the future.”

In 2019, Cervara was named the ATP Coach of the Year in the ATP Awards. Medvedev earned his first two of six ATP Masters 1000 trophies that season, won the Nitto ATP Finals in 2020, claimed his first major trophy in 2021 and then reached No. 1 in the PIF ATP Rankings in 2022, all under Cervara’s guidance.

Medvedev’s players’ box is often sparsely populated, but Cervara has been a consistent figure in it since he first broke onto the ATP Tour. The coach wrote an emotional message to his longtime charge upon the release of the news.

“Daniil, Our fantastic eight-season adventure together comes to an end. Like a symbolic wink of life, it’s after this US Open tournament that we end our collaboration,” Cervara wrote. “I am grateful and happy for all the great things and wonderful experiences we were able to experience together on the court during these eight years. It will remain etched in my memory forever.

“I thank you for placing your trust in me. I gave EVERYTHING, every second, for our shared goals. I loved training you, coaching you, supporting you (even when it was difficult), and finding solutions with you and the team to help you perform. I will keep in mind your unconventional magic as a player, which is your strength. It will return, I’m sure.”

Medvedev owns a 26-18 record this season according to the Infosys ATP Win/Loss Index and just lost in the first round of the US Open to Benjamin Bonzi. He is No. 16 in the PIF ATP Live Rankings.
