Daniil Medvedev won his third title of the 2026 season on Tuesday at the AITO Hangzhou Open, where he surged past good friend Andrey Rublev 7-5, 6-4 in a battle between the top two seeds.
Rublev came out firing in the Chinese ATP 250 final, but Medvedev absorbed the early onslaught before taking control with a stunning display behind his serve. The former No. 1 player in the PIF ATP Rankings struck 23 aces and just two double faults during a 93-minute victory to earn his 24th tour-level title.
“There is always a tiny bit more on the line,” Medvedev said when asked about playing Rublev, whom he now leads 8-2 in their Lexus ATP Head2Head series. “I think I handled it well. I played good in the important moments and I’m really happy with my level.”
Medvedev missed out on qualification for the Nitto ATP Finals last year for the first time since 2018, but the 30-year-old has responded in 2026. After winning titles in Brisbane, Dubai and now Hangzhou, Medvedev sits eighth in the PIF ATP Live Race To Turin and is firmly in contention to return to the season finale.
Tuesday’s victory over Rublev marks Medvedev’s 22 tour-level title on hard courts, moving him level with Michael Chang, Stefan Edberg and John McEnroe for the 11th most in the Open Era.

Medvedev owns a 38-16 record in 2026, according to the Infosys ATP Win/Loss Index, with 27 of those victories coming on hard courts. That total is tied with World No. 2 Alexander Zverev for the most hard-court wins on Tour this season.
"I'm really happy to see you in this final," Medvedev said to Rublev in the trophy ceremony. "Sorry that I served good today, but hopefully we can finish the season this strong."
Medvedev, the World No. 6 will now head to Beijing for the ATP 500 event, where he faces qualifier Pablo Carreno Busta in the first round. Medvedev reached the final in the Chinese capital in 2023 before consecutive semi-final appearances in 2024 and 2025.
