Daniil Medvedev and Alexander Zverev will represent Team Europe at this year’s Laver Cup, it was announced on Thursday. The pair will join Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz, who is set to make his debut at the upcoming edition of the team event.
The three-day event, which will be held in Berlin from 20-22 September, pits Team Europe against Team World. The teams will be captained by Bjorn Borg and John McEnroe, respectively.
Team Europe has won four of the six previous Laver Cups, but McEnroe’s side have won the past two editions. Medvedev will make his second appearance, having clinched the trophy in 2021. Zverev has competed four times, winning the event on all four occasions.
“For me, the most exciting thing about Laver Cup is always the team spirit, because it’s very rare that I get to play team competitions in tennis,” Medvedev said. “Having Carlos and Sascha on our team will help a lot because they are two of the best players in the world and I’m really excited to try and get Team Europe back to their winning ways.”
Zverev said: “I’m so excited about returning to Laver Cup. The atmosphere is always electric and for the Laver Cup to be at home in Germany, for me in particular, is going to be a once-in-a-lifetime experience.”
