Lucas Miedler and Marc Polmans kick-started a potentially exciting Northern Hemisphere summer on Sunday by lifting the trophy in their first event together at the EFG Swiss Open Gstaad.
Competing as the top seeds, Miedler and Polmans overcame Marcelo Demoliner and Robert Galloway 6-3, 6-4 to complete a dominant week at the clay ATP 250 event in the Swiss Alps. Miedler — who was defending the title he won with Francisco Cabral in 2025 — and Polmans did not drop a set en route to the title in Switzerland, where they needed just 64 minutes to prevail in the championship match.
“It feels amazing. Especially for me defending the title feels really good,” the 30-year-old Austrian Miedler said after lifting his 12th tour-level trophy. “First week with Marc. It was good fun and we had a good level. Of course it’s always tough starting a new partnership, but I think we found a good way throughout the week and I’m really happy with our level.”
Miedler and Polmans did not face a break point against Demoliner and Galloway, according to Infosys ATP Stats. For the 29-year-old Polmans, who reached this year’s Australian Open final with Jason Kubler, it was a second ATP Tour success in Switzerland after his Geneva triumph with Romain Arneodo in May.
“Winning the title is amazing,” the Australian said. “My first season playing mainly doubles, so it’s nice to pick up another title. I love playing here in Switzerland. It seems to be my lucky place to play, so I look forward to coming back here next year.”
After such a successful start to their partnership, Miedler and Polmans confirmed they intend to continue their partnership for upcoming events.
“We definitely plan for the summer at least,” Miedler said. “But if we keep going like this I think there is no reason to change something. Kitzbühel next and then we will see.”
