Lucas Miedler and Marc Polmans could not have made a better to start to their journey together on the ATP Tour.

The Austrian-Australian duo on Saturday made it two titles from two tournaments as a team with victory at the Generali Open in Kitzbühel. The second-seeded Miedler and Polmans eased past third seeds Jakob Schnaitter and Mark Wallner 6-2, 6-2 to add the trophy at the clay ATP 250 tournament in Austria to the one they captured in Gstaad last Sunday.

Having pulled through for tense Match Tie-break victories in both the quarter-finals and semi-finals, home favourite Miedler and Polmans marched through Saturday’s championship match with relative ease. They converted four of 10 break points they earned, according to Infosys ATP Stats, while they did not face a single break point themselves.

“I didn’t think when we started playing together we would win our first two ATP [events],” Polmans said. “An amazing start to our partnership. Me and Lucas have just begun, but thankfully there was not another Match Tie-break today, because that could have gone either way. I really like playing with Lucas. I’ve known him for many years, since juniors, so I like being his partner.”

With Saturday’s 57-minute victory, Miedler earned a record-equalling third doubles title at the Generali Open. The 30-year-old shares that record with his fellow Austrian and former partner Alexander Erler: Erler and Miedler won Kitzbühel together twice, in 2021 and 2023.

After his latest triumph with Polmans, Miedler will on Monday rise two spots to a career-high No. 19 in the PIF ATP Doubles Rankings, while the 29-year-old Polmans will rise five spots to a career-high No. 21.

“Even the quarter-final was close, 14/12 in the Match Tie-break, which can go either way,” Miedler reflected. “We managed to start well and keep going the whole match today. Amazing two weeks. When we started we said we would take these two weeks to kind of find a way, like how we play with each other. That it is already working like this is a big bonus for us. We hope to keep it up in the next weeks and we are looking forward to it.”
